Responsible gambling
Gambling is entertainment, not income and not an escape. The moment it stops being fun, step away.
Know the warning signs
Be honest with yourself about the red flags: chasing losses, staking more than you planned, borrowing to play, hiding how much you gamble, or feeling on edge when you're not playing. If that sounds familiar, take a break and reach out for support.
Use the controls
Good casinos hand you the tools — use them before you need them. Set deposit, loss and session limits up front; take reality checks and time-outs; and if you need real distance, self-exclude for a fixed period. Only ever play with money you can afford to lose.
Help in New York
Help is free and confidential. Call the New York HOPEline on 1-877-846-7369 (text HOPENY / 467369), or the national line 1-800-GAMBLER. New York support is also available through OASAS and the National Council on Problem Gambling.
The HOPEline runs around the clock, free and confidential, and OASAS-affiliated providers offer treatment across the state.
Age and eligibility
You must be of legal age to gamble; offshore operators set their own minimum, usually 18 or 21. If you're under age, or gambling isn't legal where you are, don't play.
